2. Injecting adventure into skiing

Let’s focus on a positive situation in the Alps – the ideal environment to learn to ski tour.

My previous ski experience has all been on week long ‘activity holidays’ rather than experiencing it like the true adventure sport it is. I have felt a little ‘caged in’ as I have not had the skills/ability/time/kit/companions to explore further.

However, I am now loving reshaping my mentality on skiing and the winter mountains and even though I have just scratched the surface, I am totally hooked. It’s fantastic applying general outdoor skills to it as well as leaning lots more.

Learning to ski tour has boosted my enthusiasm (not that it needed much more boosting) for launching a more developmental school ski trip where pupils learn more about mountain safety and all the value adventure can bring. More on that to come.

NB. It’s worth noting that at the time of creation the avalanche risk in the Alps is quite high due to the way the snow has fallen. Be careful.

Location: The video is shot in Avoriaz which is the ski resort about 25 minute drive up from Morzine. We often bike with school groups in this area
