The basic’s of ski touring kit
To follow on from the video last week about my new found joy of ski touring, this a quick and basic run down of how the kit differs from normal ski kit.
I felt it essential to mention the basic avalanche safety kit which you need to take with you, however there are a few point that I have learnt of late:
- It’s ESSENTIAL taking the kit does not give you a false sense of security. It’s like wearing a seat belt.
- The kit is useless unless you know how to use it (in the intensity of the moment)
- One is ALWAYS learning, practicing and staying up-to-date.
- That all said, ski touring is as dangerous as you let it be pretty much. It can be a continuation to cross county seeing if you want it to be. To get started you can practice going up and down designated pistes which are very safe and/or hire a guide.
