How the new Gold Residential Requirements effect our residential trips to the alps.
If you have not seen it, here is our main webpage about our Gold Residentials in the Alps
Requirement 1
Participants must be away from home for a minimum of five days and four nights. These should be consecutive but can be split into two blocks within 12 months.
Our application
We don’t offer a split course and our trip are 5 nights long
Requirement 2
Participants should be in an unfamiliar residential setting.
Our Application
Unless you’re a Morzine local then there is a big old tick here.
Requirement 3
Participants must stay in shared accommodation with their group for the entire residential. This should not include staying with friends or relatives.
Our Application
We stay in the wonderful Chalet St Marie all together. Rooms are generally twins of the same gender. We have a designated safeguarding officer and lots of safeguarding policies in place to keep everyone comfortable.
Requirement 4
Shared activities should take place during the day and the evening and must be purposeful, group-based, and unpaid. These may include training courses, environment and conservation projects, volunteering or be activity-based.
Our Application
We certainly fall into the activity based category here. We not only do some incredible adventure activities but we use them to teacher participants about leadership skills as well and environmental awareness.
Requirement 5
The majority of participants should be unknown to each other.
Impact
You now can technically know more that one other person on the course and it is acceptable to know up to 50% of the course. It important to stress that this dose not mean you can now come as a big group of mates as this is not within the ethos of the award. You would also run the risk of going over the 50% mark as you won’t necessarily know how many other are on the course. Given that our DofE Residential involves foreign travel and most participants do this on their own, we think travelling with a friend or 2 would be within the spirt of the award. By the way, we meet you at Geneva Airport when you come through the gates. For a lot of the activities we split up into 2 different groups so in most circumstances we would put people that already know each other in different groups for day time activities. We would also consider putting you in different rooms unless their were specific reasons for you to share.
Requirement 6
Groups should have at least five people, including the participant.
Our Application
We will have at least 5 in each group.
Requirement 7
The majority of staff should be unknown to participants.
Impact
Let us know at point of booking if you know us!
Requirement 8
Participants should research suitable activities, discuss their interests with their DofE Leader, and follow any pre-activity instructions.
Our Application
If you’ve arrived at this page then we might presume your interested in an adventurous residential! We specialize in bringing large school groups to Morzine for adventure activities from ages 11 and up so well practiced is adapting activities for a range of people. Our activities do involve exposure to height which you should be aware of. That’s not to say if you’re scared of heights it’s not for you – we’re all a bit scared of heights and helping you to overcome that fear is what we are all about. If you don’t do a particular activity or part of an activity due to this this does not mean you won’t pass your residential. Its all about pushing your personal comfort zone. Please just give as a call if you would like to discuss the nature of the activities. You can get a good feel for them on our page here
