Here's what we recommend if you're thinking of booking a holiday this Winter.
Let's plan your holiday
Accommodation
Stay at Hotel du Lac
Right on the shore of Lac de Montriond, between Morzine and Avoriaz, Hotel du Lac is a brilliant, boutique little base for a ski week. Twenty rooms including family mezzanines that sleep 4–5, a proper continental breakfast included, and a relaxed, adventure-focused feel rather than a big corporate hotel vibe. There’s a free ski bus stop right outside that gets you to the Ardent télécabine – your gateway into Avoriaz – in about five minutes.
If you stay at the hotel or visit during your holiday – you can have a drink on us. Check details at the end of the blog.
And don’t miss Monday night: Hotel du Lac runs an all-you-can-eat raclette night every week – unlimited cheese, wine and sides. It’s a proper Morzine institution, so book ahead.
Insider Tip: Kids eat free
The team behind Hotel du Lac also run Hideout, an asian fusion restaurant based in the centre of Morzine, perfect if you fancy an evening excursion from the hotel. If you book the early 6pm sitting, kids eat free with an adult main and side ordered (choice of nuggets and chips, teriyaki chicken noodles, or veg noodles/rice, plus ice cream and a drink). Handy to know if you’re travelling as a family.
Ski & Snowboard Lessons
For ski lessons, we’d recommend Bill Ski – ran by local legend Billy Clark, their signature bight pink gorilla logo is hard to miss on the mountain. Always bringing the fun vibes they have an English-speaking team and are brilliant with both kids & adults. Contact: bonjour@billski.co.uk
For snowboarding, REAL Snowboarding are a highly experienced, small team offering lessons for all ages and abilities, including group kids’ lessons. Native English speaking instructors is a massive bonus. Contact: hello@realsnowboarding.co.uk
Or, if you’re already a bit of a pro at skiing and want to venture off-piste for adventures – we recommend contacting Mark McKellar, who works with us on our summer trips as a mountain guide. He’s an expert ski instructor and can organise an epic day out for you.
It’s possible to meet all these instructors at Ardent to get started.
Mountain Access & Ski Passes
Getting into the mountains
The Ardent télécabine is your route up into Avoriaz and beyond, and it’s what makes staying near Hotel du Lac so easy logistically.
Sorting your ski pass
- New to skiing? You don’t need the full area pass. Avoriaz sells a smaller pass covering just the Avoriaz 1800 sector, plus a dedicated beginner pass for the nursery slopes, and a Park & Stash pass if your teenager just wants to play in the terrain parks.
- More experienced? Go for the full Portes du Soleil pass. It’s one of the largest ski areas in Europe – around 600km of pistes across 12 resorts, spanning both France and Switzerland, so you can actually ski across the border into Switzerland for the day.
Child Care
Want some child free time?
While knowing the kids are living their best lives? We’ve got you covered – Sophie & Amy, who work for BeVenturesome during the summer season, are private childcarers in Morzine through the Winter. Contact them through their pages here:
Getting to Morzine
Airport transfers:
That’s an important thing we can’t leave off – actually getting here from Geneva airport!
- We recommend using a local, respected company such as Getaway Vans or Skiidy Gonzales. Both offer online booking options and shared or private prices.
- Morzine is just 1.5 hours from Geneva airport, so you could arrive in the morning and be skiing by afternoon!
- There’s also an option to take the train from Geneva > Thonon Les Bains, and then get a bus (Ligne 91) up to Morzine bus station.
If you have any questions or want any further advice while planning your ski holiday, don't hesitate to reach out and we'd be happy to help!
*We’d like to offer all teachers who are visiting Morzine a free drink on us at the Hotel du Lac to celebrate our new collaboration with the hotel and also as a treat for teachers – as we know how hard you work.
If you’d like to claim your free drink, please mention BeVenturesome and show a valid school email address to bar staff.
(Offer valid on 1 pint of beer or glass of wine)
